В края на 60-те години на миналия век англичанинът Брендън Гримшоу (Brendon Grimshaw) си купил малък необитаем остров на Сейшелите за 13 000 $ и останал да живее на него.

Ненавършил 40 години, Брендън зарязал работата си на вестникарски редактор, за да постигне една от мечтите си. От 1915 до 1970 остров Moyenne Island бил напълно необитаем и на него не бил стъпвал човешки крак.

Брендън си намерил компания в лицето на Рене Лафортюн – абориген, с който англичанинът започнал да подрежда своя нов дом. Рене периодично напускал и се връщал на острова, ала Брендън, дори и сам, с десетилетия останал на него.

За 39 години Гримшоу и Лафортюн засадили 16 000 дървета и създали около 5 км. пътища и пътеки. През 2007 Рене починал и Брендън останал съвсем сам. Вече на 81 години той развъдил нови 2000 вида птици и 120 изчезващи в световен мащаб гигантски костенурки. Благодарение на неговите усилия, на някога пустия остров сега се намират 2/3 от фауната на Сейшелите.

Преди години принц от Саудитска Арабия предложил на Гримшоу 50 милиона долара за острова, но той отказал.
„Не искам островът да се превърне в място за почивки на богаташи. По-добре ще бъде да се превърне в национален парк, на който да може да се наслади всеки“ – било становището на Гримшоу.

След 20 годишни усилия мечтата му се изпълнила. През 2008 г. островът бил обявен за национален парк.

 

През 2012 Брендън Гримшоу починал на намиращото се в близост островче – Mahé.
